Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Starting rotation? Still working on it.
Opening day pitcher? To be determined.
Starting lineup? Pending.
Traverse City Beach Bums manager Gregg Langbehn was non-committal Monday about his plans for Friday night’s Frontier League opener at Joliet.
“I’m going to wait to see if we get through the next couple of days healthy before I set anything,” he said. “If somebody gets hurt (today) or Wednesday, it changes.
“We’re not at our final roster yet. We’ve got some decisions to make. I’d hate to speculate right now.”
The Beach Bums have until Wednesday to make their final cuts. They must submit their 24-man roster to the league by 5 o’clock.
Traverse City currently has 27 players still in camp with another player arriving today.
Langbehn said the team has had a “good” training camp.
“There’s been surprises, good and bad,” he said. “No different than any other spring training.”
Warmer temperatures are expected in the area today, which will be welcome news.
“We’re getting our work in despite the weather the last couple days,” Langbehn said. “We had a good run there for a week where we were able to play every day. We got everything in we needed to get in.
“We actually had a day off scheduled anyway so the (bad) weather didn’t impact us too much with exception of Sunday. Obviously, I’m not going to make those guys attempt to play baseball in those conditions. We went through that in 2010 and I regret doing it. So we just backed everything up until (Monday).”
Langbehn had Jacob Clem and Johnny Omahen throwing Monday. Clem came into camp as the designated No. 1 starter.
Traverse City won the East Division last season with a 64-32 record. Joliet was fifth in the West at 37-58.
