Prep Sports Roundup: Traverse City Central beats Gaylord

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central finally was able to play a Big North Conference game, earning a 4-2 victory over Gaylord in a game that had its venue switched.

Jacqueline Hardy was in on all four Trojan goals, scoring two and assisting the other pair.

Kalina Pfannenstiel and Grace Stanton scored the other goals for Central (2-0, 1-0 BNC), with Midi Battle picking up an assist.

Katie Wheeler made six saves in goal, while Gaylord's Alexandra Simmons had seven and Megan Lamb one. Central held a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal as all of the contest's goals were scored in the first half.

Tyler Kaiser and Sarah Polena scored goals for Gaylord (0-1), while Brandi Wagner and Melissa Hartmann drew assists.

In the JV game, the Blue Devils won 2-0 on a pair of Syndey Gooding goals.

The Trojans host Ogemaw Heights on Thursday.


Kingsley	5

Benzie Central	2

Autumn Goggin scored four goals and assisted on another as Kingsley opened its soccer season with a 5-2 win over Benzie Central.

Ally Kintner picked up a goal and two assists for Kingsley. Becky Lint and Erica Karsten drew solo assists. Ally Clark had eight saves in goal.

Marlen Schlotheuber and Kristi Kuehne scored for Benzie.


Central, West kick off season

Traverse City Central placed 12th in the 27-team Detroit Jesuit Invitational in the season's first golf action for both Central and TC West.

The Trojans shot 343. West finished 17th with a total of 345.

Plymouth won at 305, followed by Jesuit (318) and Birmingham Brother Rice (320).

Winton Munch shot a team-best 80 for Central, followed by Troy Pezzetti (81), Derek Schrank (91) and Danny Brott (91).

Payden Myers led the Titans with an 82, with Alex Scott (86), Cameron Murray (87) and Brady Greenman (90) the team's other top performances on the par-72 course.

In the JV tournament, the Titans placed fifth out of 14 teams with a 349 on the par-68 South Course.

Keits Shoemaker led West with an 85, followed by Ryan Sievers (87), Jacob Martin (88) and Tanner Hewitt (89).

Central came in 12th with a 425. The Trojans were led by Wyatt Bartels (95), Bauer Jones (107), Brandon Smith (111) and Jordan Bultsma (112).

Central returns to action Saturday at the Bay City Western Invitational, and then plays Monday in East Lansing, along with West. A Big North Conference event scheduled for Wedesday at Cadillac has already been postponed.
