Cherry Raceway results: 07/09/2013

The traveling cars of the Flint-based Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds Tour presented by Lane Automotive took part in their third race of the 2013 season.

The tour invaded the grounds of the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high banked dirt oval of Cherry Raceway in Fife Lake. Joining the Mod drivers were the Pro Streets, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Crossroads Chevrolet Four-Cylinder Compacts as a huge crowd swelled the grandstands.

The Factory Stocks were the first feature of the night which saw 2011 track champion Emery Smith take the early advantage in the 15-lap feature, he would hold on until midway through the race where Kevin Stricker would manage to fight his way to the front and take over the lead. He would sail on to victory lane from there.

Stricker, a 49-year-old from Traverse City, picked up his fifth win of the year behind the wheel of his Stricker Racing/Chevrolet. Settling for second would be Smith. Richard Cebula Jr., Jeremiah Woebbeking and Frank Hincks capped off the top five. Stricker also won the lone heat race.

The next feature event out was the Pro Streets for a 20-lap A-Main. After the opening lap Kevin Newberry was the driver holding down the top spot. He would be able to extend to a very healthy lead, and then cruise on to pick up the win.

This was the first win of the season for Newberry, a 49-year-old from Gaylord in the Diamond Performance/Chevrolet. Dan Hersey finished second. Brian Abernathy, defending track champion Allen Oyer, and Bob Green rounded out the top five. The heat races were won by Hersey and Abernathy.

Next it was the Four-Cylinder Warriors 20-lap feature event. After the green flag was dropped Russ Carrrier took the early advantage. However on the very next lap Jeremy Tulick would take over the top spot. He would look to have the race won, but on lap 18 Andrew Austin would make the jump to the lead and go to the checkered flag.
