ISEA seminar

SUTTONS BAY — The Inland Seas Education Association's Great Lakes Seminar Series continues today, May 13, with "Lake Michigan in a Dugout."

The program will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at the ISEA Education Center, 100 Dame St. Mary Catterlin and Amy Lukas will talk about how they dug out and took a canoe around 1,200 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline in 2012. Documentary on nurses

TRAVERSE CITY — As part of Nurses Week, all area registered nurses, their families and anyone interested in a career in nursing is invited to a screening of the documentary "The American Nurse: A Documentary."

The film will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St. Admission is free.

Benzie genealogists

BENZONIA — The Benzie Area Genealogical Society will meet Wednesday, May 14, at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave.

The meeting starts at 2 p.m. Lin Meeker will introduce new technology including uses for Snag-It, Evernote, digitizing slides, and Schrivener. She also will give an update on the National Genealogical Society Conference. Handouts will be available.

Fill the cupboard and feed minds

ELK RAPIDS — The final day to contribute to the fifth annual "Fill the Cupboard! Feed The Minds!" food drive is Thursday, May 15.

For every non-perishable food item collected, the Village Market will donate $1 to Elk Rapids Schools to support innovations in education. The goal is to collect 3,000 items, which results in a $3,000 donation to the schools.

Lincoln Day Dinner

HONOR — The Benzie County Republican Party will host its Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday, May 16.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at Greystone Mansion. The slated keynote speaker is National Committeeman Dave Agema and guest speaker former presidential candidate Rick Santorum by video.
