Musicale program

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Musicale will host a program on Thursday, May 8, featuring Jayne Sleder’s vocal students.

Sleder’s students will perform at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. Tea and treats will be served following the program. The public is invited. Donations for the scholarship fund are appreciated. For details, visit

‘The Quest’ debuts

TRAVERSE CITY — SEEDS After School students will debut a performance created in cooperation with Earthwork Music Collective and Blackbird Arts

Middle and high school students from Benzie Central, Brethren, Forest Area, Frankfort, Kalkaska, Manistee and Suttons Bay schools prepared for the performance by studying local history, exploring personal journeys, learning songs from the Alan Lomax archives of Michigan folk music and writing new material for the concert.

“The Quest — A Celebration of Community” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St. The doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for students and free for children ages 9 and younger. They may be purchased at

Music House Museum opens

ACME — The Music House Museum will host a “Season Opening Celebration” on Thursday, May 8.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the museum, 7377 U.S. 31 North. There will be music by Miriam Pico and David Chown, hors d’oeuvres, beverages and sweet treats, plus demonstrations of some of the museum’s collection.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and may be purchased at

Mesick Museum opens

MESICK — The Mesick Mushroom Festival also signals the opening of the Mesick Museum for the season.

The museum will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, for the festival. Regular Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays through October 4, or by appointment with a volunteer. For details, visit
