TC East falls in state quarters

ISHPEMING — Traverse City East Little League was eliminated from the 12-and-under state tournament quarterfinals on Monday after falling 13-11 to West Portage.

TC East went 1-3 at the state tourney, including a 1-2 record in pool play, which was good enough to advance it to single-elimination play.

East stayed in the game behind a surge of power as Luke Klug smacked two homers — one being a grand slam — and Danny Passinault also connected on a four-bagger. Artie Dutmers and Sam Briggs each collected three hits to aid the offense.

West Portage advances to the semifinals, where it will meet Birmingham.
