Area unemployment now at 7.5 percent

— Data based on seasonally unadjusted numbers released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget show that unemployment for October in northwestern Lower Michigan is now at  7.5 percent. It fell 5.3 percent in October from September, from 11,300 in September to 10,700 in October. The drop was more dramatic — 16.4 percent — when compared to October of 2011.

Statewide, unemployment actually increased 0.8 percent in October over September, going from 385,000 to 388,000. However, compared to 2011, October’s numbers represented an 8.3 percent drop, with unemployment now at 8.3 percent as compared to 9.2 percent one year ago.
