Voters veto Elk Rapids Schools improvements by slim margin

ELK RAPIDS — Voters in the Elk Rapids school district narrowly defeated a bond proposal of $10.88 million in tax bonds to build a new gymnasium, upgrade athletic and other facilities, and increase security in the schools.

The proposal lost by 12 votes: 997 votes for and 1009 against, according to unofficial tallies.

The 0.83 mills was estimated to cost taxpayers $83 a year on a home with a taxable value of $100,000.
