Traverse City West swept Alpena for the third time this season on Monday, opening postseason action with a 3-0 win over the Wildcats in Alpena.
West took the district first-round matchup 25-17, 25-10, 25-11.
Leading the Titans to victory were: Katie Placek (13 kills, 6 digs); Anna O’Hara (13 kills); Maddie Mokanyk (37 assists, 7 digs); Ally Peters (19 digs); Kimmy Bilinski (8 digs); Kelsey Boudjalis (6 kills, 5 digs); and Marie Savoie (4 kills).
West (34-8-1) hits the road again to face Marquette in Wednesday’s semifinals.
TC Central 3
TC Central advanced to Wednesday’s district semifinal round after opening tournament play with a 3-0 win over host Gaylord.
The Trojans defeated the Blue Devils 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.
Strong play at the net came from Carissa Bartkowiak (8 kils, 4 blocks), Callie Bartkowiak (8 kills, 2 blocks, 34 assists); Kiley Kowal (5 kills, 2 blocks), Jessie Kuchner (6 kills, 2 blocks, 9 digs) and Sierra Fraser (6 kills, 3 blocks). Devin Dotterrer contributed 37 assists and Italian exchange student Irene Pozzi played strong defensively.
Central heads to Petoskey on Wednesday.
TC Christian 3
Mikayla Brett recorded 10 kills and Abryanna Cannon had eight as Traverse City Christian beat Northport 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 to open district play in Leland.
Brett also had two blocks and Cannon added three blocks and three aces. Maddie White chipped in four kills and one block, Rylee Price had one kill and three aces, Olenka Alekseyenko added two aces and Aubrey Heersema was good for 21 assists, one kill and one ace.
Christian faces Grand Traverse Academy on Wednesday in the semifinals.
Forest Area 3
Forest Area’s Ali Schuester ripped off eight points to erase a 13-21 deficit in an opening game the Warriors went on to win 25-23, which ultimately led to a three-game sweep over host Frankfort in a district first round win. The Warriors took the next two games 25-22, 25-12 to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals.
Schuester contributed five aces to the effort. Tabitha Cecil had 14 kills and six blocks, Dani Johne had 12 assists, Cami Campbell chipped in with nine digs and Chelsea Saylor had six digs for Forest Area (22-19-4), which faces Onekama in its next district match.
