BOYNE CITY — Boyne City continues to have Charlevoix’s number.

For the fourth straight season, the Ramblers knocked the Rayders out of the boys basketball districts, this time posting a 46-42 triumph in the Class C district opener here Monday.

Charlevoix had beaten Boyne City twice during the regular season.

Corey Redman’s 22 points and 10 rebounds paced the Ramblers (11-10). Brad Fouchia added 10 points and Ryan Carson eight rebounds.

Boyne City faces St. Francis on Wednesday. A year ago, the Gladiators needed a late rally to beat the Ramblers in the regionals.

Glen Lake 55

Elk Rapids 44

Mike O’Brien scored 24 points as Glen Lake marched into the second round of districts with a 55-44 win over Elk Rapids.

The Lakers (19-2) outscored the Elks 18-8 in the second quarter to open a double-digit lead. It was 27-15 at the break and 43-30 after three quarters.

Austin McMullen paced Elk Rapids (9-12) with 23 points.

Glen Lake takes on East Jordan on Wednesday at Boyne City.

Cadillac 55

Kingsley 46

Cadillac outscored Kingsley 13-4 down the stretch to close out a 55-46 Class B district win.

The game was tied at 42-all with 5:20 remaining.

“We gave Cadillac all it could handle for three and half quarters,” Kingsley coach Jim Rawlings said. “But then it got away from us.”

The Vikings, tri-champs in the Big North, led 29-21 at half. Kingsley rallied to take a 37-35 lead with 1:32 left in the third quarter before the Vikings went back on top 39-38 at the end of the quarter.

Jalen Brooks netted 16 points and Nick Paquet 13 for the Vikings. Tyler Newell and Travis DeBello scored 11 points apiece and Tristan Eickenroth 10 for the Stags (12-9), who won eight of their last 11 to earn a second-place tie in the Northwest Conference.

“I’m proud of the kids,” Rawlings said. “They kept raising their level of play during the second half of the season.”

Grayling 78

Roscommon 62

Scott Parkinson scored 27 points as Grayling opened Class B district play with a 78-62 win over Roscommon.

The Vikings (16-5), who face Kalkaska on Wednesday, led 39-24 at half.

Tyler McClanahan added 17 points and Justice Junttila 10 for Grayling. Brett Jobin netted 20 for Roscommon (14-7).

Leland 63

LL St. Mary 43

Leland, down one at half, fought back for a 63-43 Class D district win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary.

The Comets outscored the Eagles 21-6 in the third quarter to turn a 26-25 deficit into a 46-32 lead.

“They (Eagles) did a great job preparing,” Leland coach Jon Kiessel said. “They played a great first half. We were able to finish.”

A.J. Whittaker paced the Comets (11-10) with 17 points. Matt Fleis added 15 and Tyler Leveque 11.

Brandon McSawby and Drew Pobuda netted 15 apiece for St. Mary.

Leland faces Traverse City Christian on Wednesday.

TC Christian 76

TC Prep 11

Kris Crosby scored 20 points as Traverse City Christian advanced in the Class D district at Suttons Bay with a 76-11 win over TC Prep.

The Sabres will now tangle with Leland on Wednesday. The teams split a pair of games during the regular season.

“The key will be what we do with (A.J.) Whittaker,” Sabres coach Greg Farmer said.

Christian (15-5) led 39-5 at half in its win Monday. Paul Bump added 13 points and 10 assists and David Bump 11 points. Thirteen players scored for Christian.

Frankfort 80

Buckley 35

Frankfort overpowered Buckley 80-35 in a Class D district opener at Mesick.

The Panthers (16-5) opened a 44-15 lead at half.

Owen Stratton knocked down 18 points, Dave Loney 17 and Connor Bradley 14 for Frankfort, which faces Bear Lake on Wednesday. Loney also grabbed 10 rebounds. The Panthers owned a 46-11 edge on the glass.

Austin Burmania netted 15 points and Michael Baldinger 14 for Buckley.

Bellaire 52

Gaylord St. Mary 25

Bellaire put the clamps on defensively in beating Gaylord St. Mary 52-25 in a Class D district opener at Bellaire.

The host Eagles led 25-5 at half.

“We played some pretty good defense and this is a good time to be doing that,” coach Stan Sexton said.

Mitch Teetzel’s double-double paced Bellaire (20-0). He finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists. Denny Hall contributed 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Drew Bailey chipped in 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Charles Strehl’s 14 points topped St. Mary.

Bellaire takes on Boyne Falls on Wednesday. The Eagles handed the Loggers their only loss of the season in December.

Manistee Catholic 66

MC Eastern 54

Zack Bialik scored 16 fourth quarter points as Manistee Catholic defeated Mason County Eastern 66-54 in a Class D district opener at Baldwin.

The Sabers led 46-42 entering the final eight minutes. Bialik finished with 30 points as did teammate Ben Feliczak. Feliczak also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Catholic pulled away in the fourth after Bialik hit three consecutive 3-pointers.

Zachary Erickson netted 19 for Mason County Easter.

Catholic (17-3) plays Pentwater on Wednesday.
