LOUISVILLE — Four Traverse City Figure Skating Club skaters are competing in the Eastern Great Lakes regional championships in Louisville.
Molly Davies, Ashley Edmondson, and Frances and Anna Rossiter are taking part in the competition that ends today. Davies (12) and Edmondson (13) are in the Juvenile division while Frances Rossiter (10) is skating in Pre-juvenile and Anna Rossiter (8) in Preliminary.
The Eastern Great Lakes region is one of nine qualifying events and includes skaters from Michigan’s lower peninsula, Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee (excluding Chattanooga).
The top four performers in each division advance to the Midwestern Sectional on Nov. 19 in East Lansing.
Heimburger wins 100th career match
Traverse City Central’s Caleb Heimburger surpassed 100 career wins Saturday in the Ann Arbor Pioneer Invitational.
Heimburger and Hayden Drury won the No. 1 doubles flights by finishing 3-0. That pushed Heimburger’s win total to 101. Drury, meanwhile, is at 94 career wins.
As a team, Central finished third. Pioneer took first with 17, Troy was second with 14 and Central third with 12.
The Trojans had three runner-ups — Cam Young at No. 3 singles, Parker Berden and Yani Beeker at No. 2 doubles and Jack Seymour and Austin Wieland at No. 3 doubles.
East’s Kearney sets course record
Traverse City East eighth-grader Sielle Kearney set a course record Saturday in winning the Portage Invitational.
The East seventh- and eighth-grade girls placed sixth out of 46 teams.
Kearney lowered the course record by 19 seconds, finishing 1.55 miles in 8:45. The old record was set in 2004 by Albion’s Amelia Bannister.
East’s Leah Socks won the sixth-grade race and was one second off the course record.
