Prep Sports Roundup: TCW 2nd, TCC 3rd at Cheboygan

Taylor Kehoe was second low medalist to lead the Traverse City West girls golf team to a second-place finish out of 14 teams at the Cheboygan Invitational.

West had a team score of 368.

TC Central had its low team score of the year, with a 378, to finish third.

Behind Kehoe for the Titans was Grace Ellul, who tied for 10th with a 94. Hunter Kehoe (97), Erica Whiting (99), Emily Northway (101) and Summer Slack (103) rounded out the Titans’ scores.

Amelia Pezzetti led the Trojans with an 81, which was fourth individually. The other Central scores were: Carrie Wynkoop with a 99; Kate Trubac with a 102; Abbie Crick with a 103 and Ashley Hulet with a 116.

Harbor Springs won the tournament with a 341.

West’s JV team finished seventh, led by Patricia Davis, who had a 98. Other West scores included Katie Cairns (107), Grace Warren (109), Morgan Harris (114), Kelsey Gay (125) and Nikki Sanford (134).

TC Central’s JV team finished 12th with a 470, led by Carley Laird’s 101. Molly Smith carded a 114, Samantha Mahon had a 126, Meredith Nelson a 129, Laura Buchanan a 130 and Victoria Koro a 151.


Elk Rapids 3

Grayling 1

Andy Atkinson had a hat trick to lead Elk Rapids to a 3-1 victory over Grayling in a Lake Michigan Conference battle.

Marty Raymond chipped in with two assists and Preston McDowell had an assists. Jackson Waugh was in net for the Elks (9-7-3, 6-0 Lake Michigan). Elk Rapids, which hosts Petoskey on Thursday, outshot the Vikings 11-2.


Cadillac 5

Leelanau County 3

Leelanau County won two singles matches and a doubles flight but fell 5-3 to Cadillac.

Winners for Leelanau were Joel Sneed, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1; Lindsey Boone, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3; and the No. 4 doubles team of Alex Bennett and Lexi Galla, 6-1, 5-7, 10-0.

Leelanau County travels to TC St. Francis on Thursday.
