TRAVERSE CITY — Theodore John Huthmacher, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 28 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Jan. 1, 1934, the son of Theodore John and Mayme Edith (Lyon) Huthmacher. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Baltimore from 1951-1954. He was a member of the Cruiser Association for 30 years and the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1984. After 20 years of service he retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in July, 1988. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and going to garage sales.
Ted leaves behind his son Matt (Jennifer) Huthmacher of San Diego, Calif. and two daughters Sally Blackwell of Grand Blanc and Lora (Mick) Leighner of Troy, Ohio. He leaves behind seven grandchildren: Hunter, Abigail, Bradley, Emma, Derek, Noah and Levi. Ted will be greatly missed by his former wife, Janet Love; dear friend Paul; his dog Daphne and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary, brother-in-law Philip and nephew Philip.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Covell Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Graveside services will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens following the funeral. Friends and family are invited to a memorial luncheon at 2 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be made to World Wildlife Federation.
