Givens, Schrank earn first-team All-State


PLYMOUTH — Traverse City Central forward Cam Givens and defenseman Derek Schrank were selected first-team Division 2 All-State by the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association.

Givens finished as Central’s second all-time leading scorer with 154 career points, which was the highest total of any player since the split in 1997. He had 31 goals and 55 points as a senior.

Schrank put up three goals and 26 points from the blueline, and had only six minutes of penalties for the entire season.

Central forward Parker Hebden was honorable mention. Hebden had 20 goals and 47 points in his first year on varsity as a sophomore.

Traverse City West forward Jake Saxton was honorable mention in Division 1 and Cadillac forward Spencer Graham and defenseman Patrick Briggs were both second-team picks in Division 3.

Saxton led all West scorers with 29 points, including nine goals. Graham had 43 points and 26 goals for the Vikings, while Briggs put up 16 goals among 39 points.

Four area teams earned academic All-State honors: Cadillac, the Bay Reps, TC Central and TC West.

Area academic All-State players included: Trevor Apsey (Bay Reps), Briggs (Cadillac), Graham (Cadillac), Dakota Derrer (Reps), Theo Noffsinger (Reps), Claire Huhta (Reps), Gavin Uitvlugt (Reps) and John Linenger (TC West).
