Junior golf sign-up underway

TRAVERSE CITY — Sign-up for Traverse City Junior Golf Association lessons, on-course instruction and tournament programs is underway.

Boys and girls ages 5 years and older are can sign up on-line at www.tcjga.com. Lessons begin the first week of May, after school and evenings, and will continue through the end of June. Tournament play and on-course instruction begins when school is out in June. All scheduled activities are on the Web site.

TC West to host softball clinic

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Rapids Community College softball clinic will be held Saturday and Sunday at Traverse City West High School.

Saturday’s session will involve pitching and catching. Sunday’s three-hour session will deal with basic fundamentals with players rotating to a different skill area every 45 minutes. The pitching-catching session is $25, the skills session $40. For those registering both days the cost is $50.

The clinic staff will include current and former GRCC staff and the entire GRCC softball team.

Registration nears for hoops tourney

TRAVERSE CITY — The registration deadline is Wednesday for the YMCA Blizzard boys 7th-8th grade team basketball tournament.

The cost is $200 per team. The round-robin tournament starts at 9 a.m. on Jan. 25 at area gyms. The 7th and 8th graders will be in separate divisions. All games will be officiated. Each team is guaranteed three games.

Winter Jam set for Feb. 1-2

TRAVERSE CITY — The 18th annual YMCA Winter Jam men’s basketball tournament will be held Feb. 1-2 at area gyms.
