---- — Situation not person

Sad headlines graced the front page Dec. 14. One story covered the unexpected death of a man staying at Safe Harbor. I applaud the Record-Eagle for giving this loss front page coverage. Despite this man’s low socio-economic status, his life had value. You could do him an even greater service by not using his housing situation to define him as a person. When the headline reads “Homeless Man,” it implies he is less than a man. The proper terminology is “man experiencing homelessness” which communicates the condition he is in, not who he is as a person.

Don’t look away

First, I want to say I appreciate Michelle Fehrenbach, a true angel among us for her acts of kindness towards Joe.

Once again I see the broken system in our government. What guidelines are they using? Are they from the ‘60s, ‘70s or even the ‘80s — when these individuals actually were taken care of with a warm place to stay, food and trained staff to help them?

Are we all so self absorbed in today’s society that we can continue to look the other way?
