Gilbert N. Darling


BUCKLEY — Gilbert N. "Gib" Darling, 81, of Buckley, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at his home. Gilbert was born on Jan. 19, 1931 to Clarence and Gertrude (Roote) Darling in Kingsley, Mich. He attended Kingsley High School and then entered the U.S. Army, serving overseas in the Korean conflict. He married the former Marilyn Jacobsen Aug. 28, 1952 in Kingsley. They have lived in Buckley since 1979.

Gib was a master builder and a draftsman, he loved to build things. He retired in the early 1990's. Gib was a life member of VFW Post #5315 in Baldwin, Mich., and was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Gwendolyn Lewno of Buckley, Valerie (Michael) Marshall of Wash., and Vanessa (Kurt) Menard of Calif.; and grandchildren Whitney, Ethan and Kirsten. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Wilma Scafe, and Doris Arntz.

A memorial gathering will be held from 2-4 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Masonic Temple in Mesick. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Disabled Veterans through the Covell Funeral Home, 232 E. State St. Traverse City, MI. 49684
