ELK RAPIDS — Second place in the Lake Michigan Conference is up for grabs this week when East Jordan and Elk Rapids meet twice in the span of five days on the boys hardwood.
Round 1 goes to the Red Devils.
East Jordan took over sole possession of second in the league with a convincing 64-44 win over Elk Rapids on Monday at Elk Rapids High School.
The Red Devils (12-2, 10-2 Lake Michigan) held a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and built that advantage from there, leading 37-25 at the half and 55-35 at the end of the third period.
“They were just the better team from start to finish,” said Elk Rapids coach Luke Johnson. “They executed offensively and we weren’t very good offensively. They came from the get-go ready to play.”
Noah Bacchus had a game-high 21 points to lead East Jordan. Colin Petrie and Jaden Hoffman each added 10 in the win.
Elk Rapids (13-4, 9-3) was led by Cole Walker’s 14 points.
The Elks turn around and travel to Harbor Springs today, while East Jordan heads to Grayling. Then, Elk Rapids and East Jordan square off again on Friday in East Jordan, where Elk Rapids will be looking to get revenge and deadlock the two teams who trail league-leading and undefeated Boyne City by two games.
“Hopefully the kids will learn something from this,” said Johnson.
