Buses answer this week

Where are we going to park during the Cherry Festival? How much will parking cost this year? How can we lighten up the traffic congestion on Front Street? What can I do to promote quiet downtown neighborhoods?

Buses Are The Answer. B-A-T-A.

Bay Area Transportation Authority will be providing free festival shuttles.

Designated free parking is available at Thirlby Field near 14th Street and the Civic Center (Garfield Street). BATA will shuttle your family and friends to and from the festival hub at Grandview Parkway and Union Street. Buses run conveniently on the half-hour from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

How will you get downtown with all this Cherry Festival traffic? Where are you going to park? Buses are the answer. Ride BATA to save money and lighten traffic woes.

Hop on the bus, Gus! Take a free ride, Clyde! Ride the bus to downtown activities such as Cherry Festival and Film Festival. Enjoy all Traverse City has to offer.

I’m a big-time BATA proponent and daily passenger.

Treat as professionals

As a parent and community member, I am truly disappointed with the Traverse City Area Public Schools contract negotiating team. Our board has misplaced its priorities and values by devaluing our educators and thus our children.

Since the teachers are the foundation of our school system, doesn’t it make sense to prioritize and value them? When we do this, we prioritize and value our children. TCAPS teachers are continuously awarded accolades, revered by their students, and asked to participate in national events, yet their overall compensation has continued to decrease since 2009.

We all know about the budget deficit; however, the district finds money for new programs, new technologies and new curriculum when it is the teachers who must execute these additions.
