Cherry Connection: Bringing Together Festival, Farm and Fruit

Join Michigan State University Extension at 100-acre research farm in Leelanau County.

Guided orchard tours, kids events, exhibits and samples of cherry products. Cherry Connection Shuttle picks up and drops off on the west side of the Traverse City Visitor’s Center on Garland Street every half hour from 9:30 a.m. until noon. At Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center, 6686 S. Center Highway.

Festival Open Space Marketplace at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Kids Pet Show

Register 9-9:45 a.m. Entries are open to live pets, categories include ugliest dog, best dressed pet, most unusual pet, fat cat, pet and owner look alikes, and best dressed ensemble. Event open to kids ages 3-12. Free. Event goes until noon. F&M Park, 201 Railroad Ave.

Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Contest

Heritage Day Old Fashioned Parade

Traverse City West Titans drum line at 11:30 a.m. Picnic lunch until 1:30 p.m. Games until 3 p.m. $3 for adults, $1 for kids 12 and under. Hannah Park, corner of Sixth and Union streets.

Beer Tent

Open noon-11 p.m. each day. Must be 21 and older. Festival Open Space Park North at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

For ages 18 and up. Two sessions: 12-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Open Space Park at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians Pow Wow

Native American Pow Wow Dance, presented by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Taste Native American cuisine. Bay Side Music Stage area at Grandview Parkway and Union Street.

Cherry industry information presented by industry leaders, festival officials and National Cherry Queen Meg Howard and her court. Event runs until 2:30 p.m. MSU Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station, 6686 S. Center Hwy.

National Writers Series

Sneak peak at author Mitch Albom’s latest book, The First Phone Call from Heaven. Tickets are $25. City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.
