Milestone victory comes against LL St. Mary's


MANISTEE — Todd Erickson earned his 300th career girls basketball victory Wednesday in Manistee Catholic Central's 61-40 win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary's.

Haley Doyle scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Sabers, and Alysha Heck added 19 points.

Rachael Thon scored 14 and Mary Rexroat 10 for St. Mary's.

Manistee CC improves to 6-1 this season, Erickson's 20th with the team.


Kingsley      45 Glen Lake      27

Amanda Youker's double-double paced Kingsley to a 45-27 Northwest Conference win over Glen Lake.

Autumn Goggin added 15 points and Andrea Lee nine rebounds for the Stags (6-2, 3-0 NWC). Kingsley is off until a Jan. 9 showdown with Benzie Central, which is also 3-0 in NWC play.

Katie Stowe led the Lakers (5-3, 2-1 NWC) with nine points, while Scotlyn Brengman added seven rebounds and six points and Jordan Peplinski chipped in six points.

Benzie Central      68 Suttons Bay      25

Maggie Geetings scored a career-high 12 points to help Benzie Central to a 68-25 Northwest Conference victory over Suttons Bay.

Jordan Nye scored 17 points and had five steals for the Huskies (5-2, 3-0 NWC).

Jane Hursey paced Suttons Bay with eight points.

Buckley      49 Mesick      40

Bailee Kuhn and Buckley rang up a 49-40 Northwest Conference victory over Mesick.

Kuhn had 14 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Hyah Al-Quoran chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals for the Bears (3-3, 1-2 NWC).

Clarice Pahl added six rebounds, four assists and five steals for Buckley, which travels Friday to Suttons Bay.

Gabby Kline scored 14 points to lead Mesick.

Frankfort      56 Leland      30

Mckenna Kelly led a balanced attack as Frankfort downed Leland 56-30 in Northwest Conference play.

Kelly had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists in the Panthers' win. Shayla Soto added 11 points, seven steals, four boards and three assists, while Keelan Kelly and Madison Stefanski each scored 11 points.

Frankfort improved to 3-3 and 2-1 in NWC games.

Libby Munoz led Leland with 16 points.

Manton      46 Forest Area      25

Manton used a 15-2 third-quarter run to blow open a 46-25 non-conference win over Forest Area.

The Rangers held a slim 17-15 halftime lead before the spurt.

Jurrica Stuckey and Tera Shepler each had seven points for Manton, and Shepler added seven rebounds.

Emily Gonyer led Forest Area with nine points and five steals, while Kortni Birgy had 13 rebounds.

Manistee      62 Kalkaska      47

Emilee Kott had 12 points and Megan VanderWeele 10 as Manistee topped Kalkaska 62-47 in non-conference action.

Kelli Guy had 22 points and seven assists for Kalkaska (3-2), which hosts Charlevoix on Friday.

Tabitha Kibby added eight points, Ellie Barber contributed seven points and six rebounds and Taylor Birgy grabbed eight boards.

Grayling      66 Houghton Lake     49

Hailey Whittaker filled up the stat sheet in Grayling's 66-49 non-conference win over Houghton Lake.

The sophomore racked up 16 points, five steals, five rebounds and three assists in the win, while fellow sophomore Sam Denno added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Vikings improve to 4-1 overall.


TC West sweeps double dual meet

Traverse City West topped Benzie Central and Elk Rapids in a double dual meet.

The Titans won 53-23 against the Elks and 51-24 in the matchup with Benzie.

James Peck (215 pounds) and Vincent Priante (103) each recorded a pair of wins by pin, while Jonah Jasman (119), Sean Clark (145) and Ryan Drake (189) also had two wins each.

Single victories went to Tyler Post (112), Brad Squires (112), Caleb Harris (119), Mike Lambert (130), Zach Provost (152), Jake Draper (160), Gabe Jasman (160), Brandon Barth (171) and Josh Wheaton (171).

The Titans return to action Thursday at Grandville before hosting the Grand Traverse County Classic on Saturday.


Cadillac      4 Big Rapids      0

A pair of short-handed goals helped propel Cadillac to a 4-0 victory over Big Rapids at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

J.D. Horvath, Spencer Graham, Brett Farley and Ryan Morse scored Cadilac's goals, with Farley and Morse netting the short-handed scores 16 seconds apart in the third period.

Cadillac goalie P.J. Nemesh made 10 saves for the shutout. The Vikings had a 30-10 advantage in shots on goal.

Levi Rowen, Josh Beard, Keenan Kolarik and Daniel Gischia had assists for Cadillac (4-5).
