Community walks

TRAVERSE CITY — Gloria Halligan will lead free community walks in November.

Walks start at 10:30 a.m. at Cuppa Joe’s at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons today, Nov. 7, and Thursdays, Nov. 14 and 21. Participants should plan on walking about three miles and no reservations are required. For details, contact Halligan, 944-3054 or

Vaccine program

TRAVERSE CITY — Dr. Kurt Froese of Lighthouse Chiropractic & Wellness Center will give an educational program titled “The Flu Vaccine-A Shot in the Dark?” from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Chamber of Commerce board room, 202 E. Grandview Parkway. The public is welcome. For details, call 933-1117.

Senior lunch

INTERLOCHEN — Area senior citizens are invited to a community lunch on Monday, Nov. 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, U.S. 31 and Rogers Road.

Lunch will be served at noon and will be followed by fellowship and games. The meal is $3 per person. Seniors also may bring their own lunch and enjoy the free activities. Lunch reservations are needed by Friday, Nov. 8. For details or reservations, call Ralph Hintsala, 620-0840.

Robotics demo

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s Food for Thought, an NMC service learning project, will host an Unmanned Systems Robotics demonstration and food drive on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Aero Park Laboratories building on Aero Park Drive. A new aspect of the event is a VIP breakfast.

The breakfast starts at 9 a.m. and includes food, private use of unmanned vehicles and one-on-one time with pilots and instructors. The cost is $25 per person and reservations are needed; call Carl Rocheleau, 342-4974.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the community can get a glimpse of the college’s newest programs and enjoy family activities while supporting a food drive to help fill 51 area food pantries. Demonstrations of NMC’s land, air and sea unmanned vehicles will be the main attraction. Admission is five food items or $5 per person. Food will be delivered to the pantries in time for Thanksgiving.
