Up North Wines author

FRANKFORT — William Storrer, author of "Up North Michigan Wines by the Bay, Leelanau & Old Mission Peninsulas Explored," will be on hand to sign his newly released book from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at Charlie’s Natural Food Market, 76 Airport Road.

"Up North Michigan Wines By The Bay" is a comprehensive look at the wine industry of Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas including the region’s distinctive climate, wineries, wines and grapes, as well as the people who work there.

Manton Harvest Fest

MANTON — The Manton Area Harvest Festival will run from Friday through Monday.

The event opens Friday with the Midway at 6 p.m. and country and gospel music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. by the Jack Pine Pickers.

Saturday, activities start with a horseshoes tournament at 9 a.m. Festivities continue with a craft show, the midway, kids games, a talent show and more.

A pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. will start the day on Sunday. Activities also include a craft show, the midway and music throughout the day.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the senior center. The craft show and midway continue and there also will be a parade at 10 a.m. Other activities include a car show, lunch, a chicken barbecue, horse pulling, a lumberjack competition and music.

Labor Day picnic

NORTHPORT — The Leelanau County Democratic Party will hold its annual Labor Day Picnic on Monday.

The picnic will start at 2 p.m. at Peterson Park. Tom Stobie, superintendent of Frankfort Schools and Democratic candidate for Michigan's 101st District, will be the guest speaker. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass.

‘Simply Give’ match

GRAND RAPIDS — Meijer will double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation made from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7, in support of Hunger Action Month.
