Unions only take

There have been a good number of letters to the editor about the right to work law. First of all, it should be called the right to choose law. It gives a person a chance to choose whether they want to join the union or not.

I worked under the union first, and I wish I could have had the choice. When I worked at the Dodge Main Plant on an eight-hour day, I was directed by the union to work about three hours a day, and you wonder why you have to pay the high prices for a new car.

Detroit was a beautiful, great city. Thanks to union rule, it went down the drain. I had a business, and the union put me out of business, 100 people lost their jobs through no fault of their own.

Think about it. The unions will not give, they only know how to take — it's as simple as that.

A really bad war

Thank you for publishing Michael Moore's outrageously honest appraisal of the "support our troops" phrase. There are families and friends who would be torn between anger and agreement, pride in their dear ones' sacrifice, and yes, get them home and end this prolonged effort to change an unchangeable country.

Let us hope that even senior citizens such as I can find ways to help in the continuing sad results of our really "bad" war.

Not their duty to judge

I was shocked to read in the Dec. 29 issue of the Record-Eagle that the Grand Traverse County commissioners had rejected the grant application from Planned Parenthood of Northern Michigan.

Planned Parenthood provides health services to thousands of women in our area.

These services are available to all women and are vital to their good health.

I believe that women have a right to make their own health decisions.

It is not the duty of the county commission to judge women or the services provided by Planned Parenthood.
