KALKASKA — Zach Hill picked an opportune time to star.

The Kalkaska senior scored two goals and assisted on a third Wednesday night as the Bay Reps beat Cheboygan 5-3 in a Northern Michigan Hockey League played at the Kaliseum. It's the Reps only game at the Kalkaska facility this season.

"It was a nice homecoming for him," Reps coach Todd Spaulding said. "He had a good game."

Zack Bargy, Tim Barber and Nate Wilson added scores for the Reps.

It was 3-3 in the third period when Wilson scored off assists from Hill and Trevor Apsey. Bargy, who drew an assist on Hill's first goal, netted an insurance tally.

Jay Jones had 20 saves in goal.

The Reps, 6-10, are on their first two-game win streak of the season.

"This gives us something to build on," Spaulding said.

The Reps host Mid-Michigan on Friday.


TC Central      8 Gaylord      0

Cooper Marshall's goal ended Traverse City Central's 8-0 mercy win over Gaylord with 14:43 remaining.

The Trojans — who were elevated to No. 1 in Division 2 after an 8-4 win over former No. 1 Livonia Stevenson last Saturday — scored just 20 seconds into the game to set the tone.

Cam Givens struck off a Cooper Macdonell assist in the first minute and led 3-0 within four minutes on goals by Macdonell and Buddy Rose. Givens, Joe Videcki, Brady Girard and Rhys Adle drew assists.

By the end of the first period, Jon Russell and Nico Saco had tacked on two more goals — with Mitchell Ward, Bill Vermetten, Givens and Russell netting assists — to lead 5-0.

Givens scored 3:49 into the second off Videcki and Derek Schrank assists, and Videcki picked up his third point of the game with a goal set up by Adle and Alex Oliver.

Vermetten made three saves. Central outshot the Blue Devils 40-3.

The Trojans (13-2, 5-0 Big North Conference) host Gaylord on Saturday.


St. Francis     49 Benzie Central     28

St. Francis hit the halfway point of the regular season with a 49-28 non-conference win over Benzie Central.

The Gladiators, 9-1, led 25-9 at half.

Liza Erickson and Kaitlyn Feeney paced St. Francis with 10 points. Jordan Nye had 11 for Benzie.

Joburg-Lewiston      70 Onaway      27

Junior forward Hailey Weaver came off the bench to score a game-high 16 points and lead Johannesburg-Lewiston to a 70-27 Ski Valley Conference victory over Onaway.

Weaver also grabbed five rebounds, while her sister Katelyn had eight points and five boards.

Abby Schlicher contributed 12 points, four steals, five rebounds and four assists, while Brittany Cherwinski had 11 points, four boards, three steals and four assists.

Erica Price led Onaway with seven points.

Joburg (11-0, 8-0 SVC) travels Friday to Pellston.

Inland Lakes      50 Mancelona      35

Sandra Bischoff scored a game-high 17 points to lead Inland Lakes to a 50-35 Ski Valley Conference win over Mancelona.

The Ironmen were led by 14 points from Emily Nixon and 10 each by Vanessa Batchelor and Makenzie Wilson. Mancelona travels Friday to Bellaire.

Bellaire     43 LL St. Mary     36

Bellaire held off Lake Leelanau St. Mary for a 43-36 non-conference win.

St. Mary had pulled to within two in the fourth quarter. Bellaire (7-2) hit 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold on.

Mariah Cords led Bellaire (7-2) with nine points, eight rebounds and three steals. Renee Lalone and Jillian Nevarez added eight apiece, with Lalone adding seven rebounds and five steals and Nevarez grabbing four boards.

Megan Popp paced St. Mary (2-9) with 11 points. Rachael Thon contributed eight points and 10 rebounds. St. Mary hosts Onekama on Friday.

Gaylord St. Mary     40 Central Lake     29

Kari Borowiak scored 15 points to pace Gaylord St. Mary to a 40-29 Ski Valley win over Central Lake.

St. Mary's had won the first encounter 60-15.

"We're making some improvements," Central Lake coach Quinn Barry said.

Christina Smith added nine points for the Snowbirds.

Alexis Carpenter netted eight points and Allie Hines six for Central Lake (5-5, 4-4).

TC Central Frosh     47 Elk Rapids Frosh     10

The Traverse City Central freshmen opened a 17-2 first quarter lead en route to a 47-10 win over Elk Rapids.

The Trojans (9-0) were paced by 12 points from Abigail Green.


Kingsley sweeps Mancelona, Frankfort

Seven Kingsley wrestlers finished 2-0 as the Stags swept Mancelona 48-24 and Frankfort 53-21 in a double dual.

Picking up two wins were David Bruner at 103, Max Denny at 112, Pat Denny at 145, Sam Sawyer at 160, Brian Lark at 171, Dustin Kerr at 189 and John Parks at 215.

Kingsley is at Benzie on Saturday.

Mancelona topped Frankfort 47-24.

Tevin Nygren (152), Mike Meadows (135) and Keegan Richardson (285) each won two matches.

Cody Fuller (103), Caleb Nygren (112), Noah Burroughs (119), Noah Daniels (125), Micah Burroughs (160) and Tristan Waters (215) were all 1-1 for the day.

The Ironmen host their own tournament Saturday.
