Police pursue lead in Boyce case

TRAVERSE CITY — Detectives investigating the hit-and-run death of Kelly Ann Boyce spent much of the past two weeks investigating a tip about a man who splits his time between Traverse City and the Alpena area.

Traverse City Police Capt. Mike Ayling said detectives haven't been able to rule out the tip after interviews and at least five search warrants that targeted the man.

He said some evidence is "really damning" but other evidence can't place the man in the 600 block of Washington Street on July 5 when a motorist struck and killed Boyce.

"This is one of 600 tips we haven't been able to discredit yet," he said.

Ayling emphasized police continue to pursue other tips and haven't narrowed the investigation's focus.
