Show canceled

TRAVERSE CITY — Because of a scheduling conflict, the 9 p.m. performance of the Monterey Jazz Festival 55th Anniversary Tour Celebration on Thursday, March 21, has been canceled. The 6:30 p.m. show at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St., will take place as scheduled.

‘Fair Trade’ program

KINGSLEY — St. Mary-Hannah will host a presentation by Higher Grounds founder Chris Treter today, March 14.

Treter will show his new video at 7 p.m. at the school, 2912 W. M-113, and answer questions about his work in fair trade in the coffee and olive oil industries. The program is sponsored by the youth group and includes coffee sampling. Admission is free and the public is welcome. For details, call 263-5640 or 649-1951.

Watershed program

MANISTEE — The League of Women Voters Manistee County will sponsor a program highlighting the work of the Lake Michigan Inter-League Organization, a group composed of LWV members within the Lake Michigan Watershed.

The program will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 14, in the education room at West Shore Medical Center, 1465 E. Parkdale. Mary Lee Orr, a Benzie County LWV member who serves on the LMILO board, will discuss issues affecting Lake Michigan and ways the LMILO is promoting positive policy decisions to safeguard the health of Lake Michigan. ‘Empty Bowls’ set

TRAVERSE CITY — Blackbird Arts will host a Empty Bowls workshop and a Empty Bowls Community Paint Party.

The workshop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 15. The cost is $17 per person with 25 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Fresh Food Partnership and Empty Bowls. Registration is required; call 421-8085.

Blackbird Arts has been asked to paint 100 bowls for the Empty Bowls project and will hold a drop-in community painting party from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21. There is no charge, but a $5 donation per bowl is suggested.
