TRAVERSE CITY — Glen D. Coleman, 78, of Traverse City, formerly of Maple City, died Monday evening, Dec. 17, 2012, at Munson Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 24, 1934, in Maple City, he was the son of the late Charles and Mabel (Ashmore) Coleman. On May 15, 1954, in Traverse City, he married the former Nancy A. Houghton.
Prior to his retirement Glen was employed by Oleson's Food Stores as a grocer, Allied Hahnenberg as a driver and also a driver for Williams Chevrolet.
As his special interest he enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Glen's world centered around his family, whom he truly loved. He will be sorely missed.
Glen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy A. Coleman, of Traverse City; son, Larry (Sandy) Coleman, of Traverse City; daughter, Laurie (Steve) Dixon, of Traverse City; sister, Janet ( Robert "Bud") Watson, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Keith (Ronda) Coleman, Theron (Amy) Coleman, Brent (Emily Morrison) Coleman, Nathan Dixon and Kim (Eric Weber) Dixon; and great-grandchildren, Kendra, Aiden, Ethan, Megan, Travis, Kate, Emma and Aubrey.
In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by a sister, June (Warren) Poertner; and a brother, Bobby Coleman.
Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, Dec. 20, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m., where the Coleman family will receive friends. Funeral services will be held at West Side Community Church, 4975 M-72 West, Traverse City, MI, on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at noon, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. John Clark will officiate. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In remembrance of Glen, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of choice. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home or church.
