Health clinic benefit
Traverse City — The "Heels on Wheels' fundraiser for the Traverse Health Clinic today, Nov. 29, will focus on personal, financial and automotive health.
The event starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Bill Marsh Buick/GMC dealership. Bill Marsh will donate $10 to the health clinic for brief automotive test drives, which start at 4:30 p.m. A car car clinic starts at 6 p.m. and financial health tips will be available throughout the event. There also will be give-aways and a jewelry raffle, along with free refreshments and beverages.
Proceeds support the dance team of Dr. Kevin Fitzpatrick and Jennifer Howard, who represent the Traverse Health Clinic in the SwingShift and the Stars dance competition. For details or registration, call (800) 59-MARSH.

Traverse City — Cog's Creek Gallery will hold an open house Friday, Nov. 30. The gallery also is the site of a Holiday Gift Show that continues through Christmas.

Visits with Santa
Acme — Children can whisper their Christmas wishes to Santa and Mrs. Claus from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 and 8; noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15; and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa's Gallery of Shops. All children receive free candy canes. Also on Saturday, Dec. 15, the Kingsley High School Jazz Band will perform holiday music from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Lobby.
Traverse City — three authors will sign their books Saturday, Dec. 1, at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front St.
Christine Krzyszton will sign "How to See the World in a Weekend" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gloria Whelan will sign "Smudge and the Book of Mistakes" from 1 to 3 p.m., and Exie Susanne Smith will sign her book "My Para Normal Life" from 3 to 5 p.m.

Lego League tourney
Traverse City — Fifteen teams of northern Michigan students from as far away as Marquette and West Branch will compete Saturday, Dec. 1, in the qualifying tournament of Michigan's 2012 FIRST® LEGO® League "Senior Solutions SM" Challenge.
The tournament will start at at 9 a.m. at Grand Traverse Academy,1245 Hammond Road. Teams have found a senior partner, identified a problem faced by aging seniors and, using Lego Mindstorms® kits, have built, programmed and tested autonomous robots to create an innovative solution to the problem to be shared at local competitions. Winners of the qualifying tournament will go on to the state competition in Flint.
