Water fest

FRANKFORT — The Benzie Conservation District and Benzie County’s Recycling Program will sponsor the Benzie County Water Festival on Friday, April 25.

Elementary school-age children can explore activities from 3-6 p.m. at Platte Rive Elementary School. From 6-9 p.m., the festival will move to the Garden Theatre for a panel discussion on the theme “Keeping Our Waters Blue,” a keynote address by former tribal chairman Derek Bailey, and music. Battle of the Bands

TRAVERSE CITY — Students Making a Climate Correction (SMACC), a project of SEEDS, and a youth-led group of high school students concerned about climate change, will sponsor “SMACC Down-A Battle of the Bands” on Friday, April 25.

The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Circuit, 225 W. 14th St. A $5 donation is suggested to support the event and the local bands. Youth with valid student ID will receive free wood-fired pizza.

Maritime open house

TRAVERSE CITY — The community is invited to tour the Great Lakes Maritime Academy training ship State of Michigan during an open house Saturday, April 26.

The event will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Maritime Academy, 715 E. Front St. Faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions and cadets will share their experiences aboard ships during sea projects.

Country dance

SUMMIT CITY — Live music will highlight a country dance Saturday, April 26, at the Summit City Grange Hall, 3060 Factory St.

The evening starts with a soup supper at 6 p.m., followed by dancing from 7-10 p.m. Donations are appreciated.

Sunday jazz

TRAVERSE CITY — Sunday Jazz Sessions at Chateau Chantal feature the Jeff Haas Trio.

The trio features Haas on piano, bassist Jack Dryden and drummer Dave Collini. They will perform from 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the winery, 15900 Rue de Vin. There is no cover charge and select chateau wines, sparkling juices, lemonade and coffee will be available.
