Bums rained out, doubleheader today

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums will play a doubleheader today after Wednesday’s Frontier League game with the Evansville Otters was rained out.

The first game is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. start at Wuerfel Park, with a pitching matchup featuring TC’s Jacob Clem (0-1, 8.43) and Evansville’s Bryce Morrow (0-1, 1.80). The second contest is slated for a 7:35 p.m. start, pitting the Beach Bums’ Johnny Omahen (0-1, 9.64) and and the Otters’ Matt Crim (0-1, 11.25).

Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Rawlings to Kirtland, Catt to Hope

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central’s Tyler Rawlings signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Kirtland Community College next season.

Rawlings was one of the top 3-point shooters in the Big North Conference last season.

Meanwhile, Charlevoix’s Tanner Catt has committed to play football at Hope College.

Warsecke 4th in 1,500 meters

AKRON — Toledo freshman Theresa Warsecke (Benzie Central) finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in the Mid-American Conference track and field championships.

Warsecke was timed in 4:28.43.

Trojans, Titans battle in Showcase

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central and West will compete in the 2014 MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.

Some 42 teams were selected to participate. The tournament runs from Feb. 6-8.

Brighton will return to the Showcase after a three-year absence. The Bulldogs won Division 1 state championships in 2006, 2012 and 2013.
