JACKSON — State health officials say a virus that sickened people who participated in a long-distance race through mud and other obstacles in southern Michigan likely originated from a participant on the course.

The department says it’s a norovirus, which is common and produces flu-like symptoms for a few days. The Department of Community Health said that most illnesses were reported from people who had mud or muddy water in the mouth.
