---- — TRAVERSE CITY — A hit-and-run driver struck and critically injured a hospital patient who walked away from Munson Medical Center.
Richard McClellan, 44, of Kalkaska, was found Wednesday at about 11:49 p.m. crumpled near the intersection of Seventh and Cedar streets. City police said witnesses reported hearing a collision and then a vehicle accelerating east toward Division Street.
One witness reported the suspect vehicle as a white, four-door pickup truck, said Traverse City Police Capt. Mike Ayling.
Ayling cautioned that police have no immediate evidence or reason to believe the hit-and-run driver is connected to a July 5 hit-and-run collision that killed bicyclist Kelly Ann Boyce, 29, of Traverse City.
Ayling said McClellan apparently left the hospital against medical advice and walked east on Seventh Street. He said it appears he was in the middle of the road when he was struck from behind.
McClellan is listed in critical condition and is on a ventilator at Munson.
