---- — Blazejewski wins 3 awards from LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE — Maria Blazejewski capped off her Lake Superior State sports career with a trio of awards at the school’s athletic banquet.

The former Benzie Central standout received the Deb McPherson Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, Bud Cooper Coaches and Chris Comito Determination awards.

This season on the basketball court, she averaged 17.8 points per game to rank second in the GLIAC in scoring and ninth on LSSU’s single-season scoring average chart, shot 86.8 percent at the free-throw line to rank third in the GLIAC in free-throw percentage and averaged 6.5 rebounds per game.

She was named to the All-GLIAC first team in 2013 and second team in 2011 and 2012. She totaled 1,585 career points to rank fifth on LSSU’s all-time scoring list and finish with a career average of 15 points per game.

Blazejewski also excelled in the classroom, maintaining a 3.76 GPA in exercise science and landing an internship at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas last summer. She served as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president this year and participated in a variety of community service activities.

Seymour receives certification

ACME — Grand Traverse Resort and Spa instructor Lisa Seymour has received certification from the Professional Tennis Registry.

Seymour is the only certified 10 & Under tennis instructor in the Grand Traverse area.

For the last five years, Seymour taught 10 & Under tennis at the Grand Traverse Tennis Camps. She is entering her fifth season as the head coach for Traverse City Central High School’s junior varsity gold team.

Manton fishing derby April 27-28

MANTON — The Manton Area Chamber of Commerce will conduct its 7th annual Tagged-Fish Derby on April 27-28.

The event runs from 12:01 a.m. April 27 to 6 p.m. April 28.

One of the tagged fish from Lake Billings in Manton will be worth $500 in prizes, and 14 others have $50 in prizes. Rainbow trout are also being planted.

Inland Seas hosting Earth Day clean up

SUTTONS BAY — This year for Earth Day, Inland Seas Education Association and the Watershed Center invite community members to help with beach cleanups from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 20 or 21.

Trash bags and gloves will be provided for two locations:

n April 20 at Suttons Bay beaches. Sign up with Emily Shaw at Meet at the Inland Seas Education Association parking lot, 100 Dame St., Suttons Bay, at 1 p.m.

n April 21 at Traverse City beaches. Sign up with Maureen McManus at Meet at the downtown Farmer’s Market parking lot at 1p.m.

Participants will complete a trash inventory form to be shared with other agencies to track what is being found on beaches.
