SF wrestler Martin signs with Jamestown College

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Trica Martin, a four-year starter on the St. Francis boys' wrestling team, signed a letter of intent to enroll at Jamestown College and participate in women's wrestling beginning in 2013.

Head women's wrestling coach Tony DeAnda announced the signing.

Martin is a Body Bar champion, three-time state champion, and four-time All-American in both Freestyle and Folkstyle Nationals. She has more than 100 career wins on the St. Francis boys' team.

"I have known Trica Martin for about four years now and am very excited to have her commit to Jamestown College as our first recruit for 2013-14 school year," DeAnda says. "Trica is the type of student-athlete who we are trying to build our wrestling program around."

Martin is also active in cross country, dance team, volleyball, softball and National Honor Society. She plans to major in biology/pre-veterinary.

Petoskey's Tompkins joins MSU volleyball class

EAST LANSING — Petoskey's Megan Tompkins was one of five volleyball players to sign a letter of intent with Michigan State on Wednesday.

Four of the five are 6-4 or taller, with the fifth checking in at 6-2.

Tompkins is a 6-foot-4 middle blocker.

"Megan Tompkins is a player that we found at our camp and she turned our heads right away as a sophomore," Spartan coach Cathy George said. "She has the potential to contribute so much over the years and we are excited about her growth and development. She's 6-4, touches 10-4, and has a heavy arm; a very nice combination. She played all the way around for her team as a middle this year and really impacted the game from both the front and back row. We'll look to her primarily in the middle but we feel like her knowledge of the game has grown immensely over the course of the past year."
