FLORENCE, Ky. — Traverse City scored six runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 9-7 road victory over Florence.
The win evens the three-game series at one contest apiece.
The Beach Bums used six different pitchers, finishing with Nick Capito, who earned his second save of the season with an inning where he gave up a hit and walk and struck out two.
Mike Devine started and lasted only 1.1 innings, surrendering four runs, three hits and two walks while fanning two. Burny Mitchem followed with 1.2 frames, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two.
Chris Squires earned the win with three innings of scoreless work, allowing three base runners and whiffing two. Scott Mueller and Matt Miller combined for a pair of innings with one run given up by Mueller to bridge to Capito.
Taylor Wrenn was 2 for 5 with four RBIs, including a three-run double in the seventh. Jose Vargas added a two-run homer in that frame.
Ryan Still, who has been struggling this season with a .203 average, was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Chase Burch and Chris Cowell also drove in runs.
The win gets Traverse City (12-11) back over .500 and within 3.5 games of first-place Evansville, while Florence drops to 13-10.
After the series finale is tonight at 6:35 p.m., the Beach Bums return home for a three-game weekend set with Joliet.
