Teenage pedestrian injured

TRAVERSE CITY — Motorists struck two pedestrians in two successive dreary mornings in Traverse City.

Emergency crews transported a Kaleva boy, 13, to Munson Medical Center on Wednesday after a vehicle struck him near the intersection of Munson Avenue and Cochlin Street when he tried to run across several lanes of traffic.

Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said the teen was treated for “non-life threatening” injuries to his upper body and head.

The incident occurred at 7:48 a.m. about two blocks from Traverse City Central High School. Heffner didn’t return calls to confirm if the teen was a student and Traverse City Area Public Schools spokeswoman Christine Guitar said she couldn’t comment.

“Because no incident occurred on campus it wouldn’t be appropriate to confirm,” Guitar said.

The driver, a Traverse City man, 33, wasn’t ticketed or found at-fault, unlike another motorist on Tuesday who struck a pedestrian while she turned into a McDonald’s parking lot on Front Street.

Heffner said the driver in that incident, a Traverse City woman, 47, didn’t see the pedestrian on the sidewalk near the restaurant.

That incident occurred at 7:36 a.m. and the victim, an Alden woman, 25, was treated for minor injuries to her abdomen. The driver was ticketed for failure to yield.
