Smelt dinner

CEDAR — The Cedar Rod & Gun Club will host its 54th annual smelt dinner April 4.

The meal will be served from 3-8 p.m. at the Solon Township Hall. The cost is $11 for adults and $5 for children.

Lenten lunch

TRAVERSE CITY — The Lenten Luncheon series, sponsored by Church Women and Men United, continues April 3.

The public is invited to a soup, sandwich and dessert meal at 11:30 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster.

Music will follow at noon and the Rev. Mary Brown of Grawn United Methodist Church will reflect on the theme “God’s Sacrificial Gift of Love” at 12:30 p.m. A $3 donation is suggested to support local missions. Attendees also are encouraged to bring signed Easter cards to go to local wounded veterans.

Learn about maple syrup

BELLAIRE — James Dake, Grass River Natural Area’s new education director, will lead a program that includes the ceremonial art of tapping a maple tree.

”Maple Sap to Syrup” will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the natural area, 6500 Alden Highway.

Participants will learn traditional and modern methods of tapping maple trees, tree identification and use of equipment, and also will be able to taste Michigan maple syrup.

Maple sugaring

WILLIAMSBURG — The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy will host an inaugural Maple Bay Sugaring Day on April 5.

Sap will be made into syrup and maple sugaring process basics will be explained.

Pancake breakfast

MAPLE CITY — The Cedar/Maple City Lions will host a pancake breakfast April 6.

The meal will be served from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lions Community Building, County Road 616.
