Kennis to head Benzie Bus

TRAVERSE CITY — Benzie Bus has a new executive director. Bill Kennis, the former History Center of Traverse City executive director, officially starts at his new post on March 17.

Benzie Bus, a public transportation entity in Benzie County, has been without a director since the Benzie Transportation Authority Board of Directors in September voted against renewing former director Susan Miller’s contract.

Benzie Bus operations manager Chad Hollenbeck served as director in the interim and will revert back to operations manager on March 17.

Board chairwoman Beverly Holbrook said Kennis is a good fit for the position because of his vision for the bus system’s future. She said he is idea-oriented and works well with everyone involved in the operation. He’ll be paid $55,000 annually.

“He has a lot of ideas, the board has a lot of ideas and the employees have ideas. We want to work together and see Benzie Bus grow and meet the needs of our community, our visitors and employers in the area,” Holbrook said Wednesday. “It’s a very good day. Everyone’s very happy. We’re excited to get started.”
