Trout Derby set for Fri. & Sat.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Area Sport Fishing Association will host its annual Trout Derby on East & West Grand Traverse Bays Friday and Saturday.

The event has cash Prizes for the top five boats — including $1,000 for first place — and separate prizes for the largest ladies, kids and off-species fish.

Registration will take place at the Sail Inn in Traverse City from 6-7 p.m. Friday, with the captain’s meeting at 7 p.m. Fishing will take place on Saturday between 6 a.m. and noon., with weigh-in starting at noon on the lawn at the Sail Inn and awards to follow.

Benzie co-ed softball tourney set

BENZONIA — The Benzie Gridiron Club will be holding a co-ed softball tournament on June 22.

Proceeds from the tourney will go toward youth football.

The sost is $120 per team, and games will take place on the Benzonia ball fields behind Watson Benzie.

Running club starts up June 17

TRAVERSE CITY — The summer session of the Traverse Area Running Club will start up June 17.

Club members meet Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. at the dog park at the corner of Division Street and Grandview Parkway. The eight-week program will conclude Aug. 9.

The club promotes running as a lifestyle and offers a noncompetitive approach to training. Middle school or high school age individuals are welcome to join. Adult group leaders will accompany club members on their daily run.
