‘Heart’ the arts
More than 50,000 people “heart the arts” at the Traverse City Opera House annually. They attend weddings, reunions, proms, debates, fundraisers, author lectures, comedy acts, concerts, baby showers, memorial services, anniversaries, plays and tours. I have witnessed all of these happen at the City Opera House — from the box office to backstage to being a member of the audience. We laugh until we cry, we smile, we hold hands with loved ones and, a rarity today, we put our phones down. We connect and share an experience that helps us fall in love over and over again with downtown. Once we leave the venue the conversation, continues with loved ones about what we enjoyed, what we saw and how we feel. You can feel the love.
Three brothers-in-law loved their wives and built them an Opera House. That historic Opera House is open and bustling 121 years later in downtown Traverse City. I am fortunate enough to have been part of the City Opera House’s past — I look forward to continuing to be part of the present and future. I urge you to continue to be one of the 50,000 that “heart the arts” annually.
