TRAVERSE CITY — A power outage affected about 2,000 Consumers Energy customers after a truck clipped power lines.
Terry DeDoes, a spokesman for Consumers Energy, said the outage began Wednesday just before 1:30 p.m. and mostly affected customers in Leelanau County.
Streets and roads affected included M-22, Cherry Bend Road and other locations mostly in Elmwood Township. About 300 Grand Traverse County residents were also affected.
“The cause was a truck flipped a phone line onto a 46,000 kilovolt line,” DeDoes said. “A truck making a delivery somehow snagged a line and caused it to short out.”
A small grass fire caused by sparks from the line was also reported at the Meadow Drive accident.
Power was restored at 2:51 p.m.
