Virtual career fair is scheduled

TRAVERSE CITY — The state of Michigan is holding a virtual career fair today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help job seekers connect with 30 employers. Career development opportunities will also be listed. Register for the free virtual career fair at

Productivity training set

TRAVERSE CITY — Betsy Williams, training specialist at Northwestern Michigan College, is hosting a “lean office” workshop. Attendees will learn how to create an efficient office environment with high employee morale and low turnover. The free event will be held Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Northwest Michigan Works office in Traverse City. Visit for more information.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards awarded

TRAVERSE CITY — Bowers Harbor Vineyards’ 2012 Riesling won gold at the 33rd Riverside International Wine Competition in southern California in early May. Bowers Harbor received six other medals of honor. The 2012 Riesling won gold medals or better in three other competitions.

Gardening workshops set

TRAVERSE CITY — Breeze Hill Greenhouse, 7230 E. Harry’s Road, will offer a variety of workshops: “Creative Containers, 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday; “Fairy or Miniature Garden,” on May 29 from 10 a.m.-noon or 6-8 p.m., and “Bring on the Butterflies,” on May 31 at 10 a.m.

Participants in the container workshop may bring their own clean container or purchase one at the greenhouse. The fee is determined by plants that are selected. Fairy or miniature garden workshop participants may choose a complete fairy kit with the pot, soil, accents and select plants for $40 or bring their own clean container and purchase individual plants and accessories. Soil is provided. The butterfly workshop is free, but donations of non-perishable food items for the Father Fred Foundation are encouraged.
