TRAVERSE CITY — Six Joliet pitchers combined on a no-hitter Saturday night as the Slammers beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 4-1 in 10 innings.
Joliet scored three runs with two outs in the 10th to square the series.
The loss allowed Lake Erie to move into a first-place tie with the Beach Bums in the Frontier League’s East Division with four games remaining. Lake Erie beat the Frontier Greys 2-0.
Chase Doremus, Lucas Goodgion, Jason Sullivan, Corey Kimes, Matt Dillon and Brett Zawacki silenced the Beach Bums bats. Although they did not allow a hit, they did walk nine batters.
Traverse City scored its only run in the fourth when Chase Burch and Zach Kometani walked, Sean Gusrang moved them over a base and Andrew Heck hit a sacrifice fly to center.
That tied the game at 1-1.
Wth two outs in the 10th, Joliet’s Jerod Yakubik singled, Grant DeBruin delivered a game-winning RBI double and then Kolin Conner belted a two-run homer, all off Jacob Clem, who was working his third inning in relief of Michael Devine.
Devine went seven innings, allowing a run on four hits.
The two teams conclude the weekend series this evening. Game time is 5:05 p.m.
