Prep Sports Roundup: Shamrocks win Tee-Off

TRAVERSE CITY — Charlie Green earned medalist honors with a two-day score of 145 to lead Detroit Catholic Central to victory in the Division 1 portion of the Traverse City Central Tee-Off Invitational at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.

The Shamrocks beat defending champion Muskegon Mona Shores , 614-620.

Reed Hrynewick led Mona Shores with a 146.

Traverse City West tied Clarkston for third with a 640. The Titans closed with a 312 on Saturday as Cam Murray shot 76, Payden Myers 78 and Alex Scott and Keits Shoemaker 79. For Shoemaker, who turned 15 Saturday, it was his first score under 80. Over two days, Murray came in at 155, Myers 159, Brady Greenman 163 and Scott and Shoemaker 164.

Traverse City Central's Winton Munch had a strong tournament, posting rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149, which was good for third overall. As a team, the Trojans were seventh with a 658.

Central's Derek Shrank was at 169 (83-86) while Trey Pezzetti (85-85) and Dan Brott (80-90) were at 170.

East Grand Rapids won Divisions 2-3-4 with a 668. Alma took second at 679 and Gaylord third at 683.

Suttons Bay finished with a 699. The Norse shot 346 on Saturday as Brent Duddles fired a 78, Sean Lamey 85, Devin Capron 91 and Eric Chapman 92. Lamey posted a 171 total.

Leland came in at 756. Joel Sneed led the Comets with a 76-79 for a 155. Ian Duvall was at 181, Devon Kleinschmidt 208 and Austin Fellows 216.

GR Union 6 3

Matt Kirkey and Jared Roth combined to pitch Traverse City West to an 8-3 win over Grand Rapids Union in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Geordan Carter led the attack with three hits and two RBIs. Walt Borkovich added two hits and two RBIs. Collin Bush also had two hits.

Union won the opener 6-2. Freshman Keegan Kenny pitched a strong game, allowing just three hits and striking out seven.

West (4-2) is at Manistee on Monday.

Central splits pair at Saginaw Heritage

Traverse City Central beat Tawas 13-0 in the Saginaw Heritage Invitational for its first win.
