TRAVERSE CITY — Good medicine comes in many forms.
The medicine Abby Gross, 13, likes best trotted into her life on Valentine’s Day and stands 16.1 hands high.
“Tiger Lily,” an 11-year-old hunting and jumping mare, was a gift from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an anonymous donor, and Abby’s horse-loving friends at Cold Spring Farm and Blue Oxer Equestrian Services near Maple City.
Next weekend, on April 28, Abby’s friends will hold a benefit for the Leland 7th grader who was diagnosed three years ago with a rare form of brain cancer. She continues to undergo medical treatment following three surgeries. All proceeds will go to help pay her medical bills.
The benefit will include a silent auction, riding instructions and demonstrations by several area instructors in reining, dressage, natural horsemanship, and team roping. Abby and an instructor also will demonstrate hunting and jumping. Admission is $5 per person with children 8 and under free.
