ELK RAPIDS — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 2013 Northern Michigan Business Expo and Job Fair from 12:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Williamsburg Banquet and Conference Center, 4230 M-72 East, in Williamsburg.
Scheduled events include lunch, exhibitions, Business After Hours, hourly drawings and performances by Elk Rapids High School students.
Lunch will include a panel discussion regarding the expansion of the TART Trail from Acme to Elk Rapids.

TRAVERSE CITY -— Veteran job seekers, active duty military members, guard and reserve members and military spouses are invited to Hiring Our Heroes, a job fair set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at the Hagerty Conference Center, 715 E. Front St.
Employers may register through April 15. Participants are encouraged to preregister as well. Both employers and job-seekers may register online at http://www.uschamber.com/hiringourheroes/traverse-city-mi.
Pre-registered participants will be eligible to attend the Employment Workshop, a classroom session set for 9 to 10 a.m., also at the Great Lakes Campus.
Conducted by the Traverse Area Human Resources Association, the workshop will include interview skills and resume-building tips. TAHRA members will then conduct one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered participants to further explore interview skills and resume building.
Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally. Resumes may be uploaded during the online registration process.
Every resume that is attached will be sent to every registered employer.
More than 30 employers are expected to participate, including Bill Marsh Automotive Group, Charter Communications, Cherry Wings Realty, Integrity Home Health Care and Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.
BOYNE CITY — Boyne City has been selected to become certified as a Redevelopment Ready Community. The city has been awarded one of eight spots in the Redevelopment Ready Community program, originally launched by the Michigan Suburbs Alliance of southeastern Michigan, designed to help compete for new business and complete a plan for growth by meeting a set of best practices.
Certified communities attract investment to create thriving places where people want to live, work and play. Boyne City will join Allegan, Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Lansing, Lathrup Village, Muskegon and Novi in its first round of certifications.
