TRAVERSE CITY — Luis Parache is quickly becoming a thorn to the Traverse City Beach Bums.
On Friday night, the Frontier Greys shortstop collected two hits — a bunt single that started a seven-run third inning, and an inside-the-park-home run in the ninth — in a 12-2 win over the Beach Bums.
On Saturday night, the No. 8 hitter in the Greys lineup added three hits and three RBIs in a 7-2 Frontier League win.
The loss was the third in a row for Traverse City, now 10-10 on the season.
Parache staked the Greys to a 2-0 lead in the second with a two-out, two-run double.
The Beach Bums got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the frame on a Jeremy Banks RBI single.
But the Greys picked up two more in the fourth, one coming on Parache's RBI single.
The Beach Bums cut it to 4-2 in the seventh, but wasted a golden opportunity to add more runs. Jose Vargas, back in the lineup after an injury, and Chase Burch led off with walks. Taylor Wrenn then extended his hitting streak to 13 with an RBI single, sending Burch to third in the process with no outs. But the Beach Bums stranded the two.
The Greys picked up two more runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Justin McDavid. Those runs were set up by an error and a Parache single. Parache also stole second. Frontier added an insurance run in the ninth.
Graham Johnson worked the first six innings for the win. Andrew Morris, the first of three Traverse City pitchers, suffered the loss.
The two teams conclude their three-game series this evening at Wuerfel Park. Game time is 5:05 p.m.
