Barbara Ann Gilmore

TRAVERSE CITY — Barbara Ann Gilmore, 79, of Ft. Wayne, formerly of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was born on June 26, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of Bill and Myra Faris.

She graduated from Webster Groves High School and the University of Missouri, Columbia where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

A long time resident of Traverse City, Barbara was a teacher at Central Grade School for 30 years. She had a remarkable love and understanding for children.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Bylenga (Jim), of Kalamazoo, Jane Gilmore, of Atlanta, and son, Mark Gilmore (Lynne), of Fort Wayne, and four grandchildren; Elizabeth Bylenga, Jace Bylenga, Zack Greenamyre, and Liam Greenamyre; sisters Nancy Meffert (Don), of Birmingham, Ala., Judy Hicks (Dave), of Traverse City, and Sally Tummelson of Rapid City, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Wakefield Gilmore, Jr.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, Traverse City.

For those planning an expression of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church Garden of Remembrance Fund. Envelopes may be obtained at the church.
