Recognition and achievement
n Davenport University has received a Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. As a winner of the HEED award, Davenport University will be featured along with 47 other recipients in the magazine's December 2012 issue.
n Joel Stalo, formerly of Traverse City, and owner of Michigan Pavers and Walls, earned first place at the Hardscape North America fifth annual Hardscape Project Awards for the segmental retraining wall constructed for Caseville Resort and Marine. The business also earned an honorable mention for the 30,000-square-foot brick paving artwork installed at St. Andrew's Cathedral in downtown Grand Rapids.
n The Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association presented attorney Dean Robb, of Suttons Bay, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his exemplary service to others.
n Spence Brothers, a Michigan construction firm with offices in Ann Arbor, Saginaw and Traverse City, has announced the substantial completion of two construction projects for The University of Michigan. The Crisler Center, originally built by Spence Brothers in 1967, underwent a $38 million expansion while the Yost Ice Arena underwent a $16 million renovation.
n The board of directors for Habitat for Humanity-Grand Traverse Region have announced that Wendy Irvin has been named as their new executive director and Denine Dingeman has joined the staff as the new manager of the Habitat ReStore in Traverse City.
n Kitchen Choreography co-owner Angela Goodall has been invited by Cambria Quartz to help select 2013's natural quartz, custom designer pallet. Thirteen designers, including two from Michigan, were invited. Goodall is co-owner, along with her husband Mike Goodall, and lead-designer.
n The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College has announced that Jason Dake has been appointed the museum's new curator of education. Dake was employed in the education department of the Flint Institute of Arts before accepting the position at the Dennos.
n Traverse City State Bank has announced the addition of Jeff Rademacher in the position of commercial loan officer.
n Jackie Morrison, owner of The Business Helper in Suttons Bay, has passed ownership of the retail outlet to store manager Mary Bush, who has worked for at the store for 18 years.
n Jay Miller, owner of Focus Tattooing in East Jordan, held a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony in conjunction with East Jordan's Pumpkin Festival last month.
